Welcome to the website of the Inter-Institutional Master’s Program entitled “Biomedical Informatics” with the support of the School of Medicine, Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) and the Athena Research Center (ATHENARC).

The goal of the Master’s Program is the provision of a high level of postgraduate education in Health Sciences and specifically the postgraduate specialization in the fields of Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics. The teaching includes both the theoretical approach in the field of information flow/analysis in biomedical systems/data and the application of information technologies in the context of the practical laboratory approach in bioinformatics and medical informatics.

The aims of the Master’s Program are:

  1. The specialization and the scientific training of graduates of Health Sciences and Informatics-Engineering with knowledge and skills that aim at the methodical study of scientific and technological issues of information analysis of biomedical systems/data.
  2. Lifelong learning, the provision and updating of knowledge of new subjects of the biomedical informatics to executives and staff of public and private bodies aiming at the effective treatment of scientific and technological problems, increasing productivity and adequately meeting the growing needs of the country and Europe.
  3. The promotion of biomedical science and its maximum possible application in technology, production, industry and management.

Postgraduate Degree

The Master’s Program awards a Postgraduate Diploma in “BIOMEDICAL INFORMATICS”.

Duration of Studies

The duration for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma is set at three (3) semesters.

Method of Teaching

The courses are held online in the evenings and on weekends to facilitate attendance by workers and residents in other areas.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees for the entire postgraduate program are set at 2,700 euros. Exempted from tuition fees are students whose their income (individual or family) does not exceed the individual one hundred percent (100%), and the family seventy percent (70%) of the national median available equivalent income, according to the data of the Hellenic Statistical Authority.

Categories of Candidates

  • Graduates of the Departments of Medicine, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Biological Applications and Technologies, and other related Departments of domestic universities, ATEIs of the country or corresponding recognized cognate institutions abroad, as defined by the Ministry of Education and Religions.
  • Graduates of Departments of Informatics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Production and Management Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and other related Departments of universities, ATEIs of the country or corresponding recognized cognate institutions abroad, as defined by the Ministry of Education and Religions.
