He holds a master\u2019s degree in Translational Research in Biomedicine, and his doctoral dissertation focused on cellular and molecular biology with an emphasis on cell division. During his graduate studies, he specialized in microscopy techniques, such as confocal microscopy and selected-plane illumination microscopy, while simultaneously developing numerous methods for the analysis of multidimensional microscopy images. His research interests include Data Analysis and Multidimensional Image Analysis, Applications of Machine Learning and Deep Learning, and Molecular Simulations. He has worked as a research associate on the BioImaging-GR and InTechThrace projects and has contributed to several scientific papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. In 2005, he graduated from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Democritus University of Thrace. He served as a Lecturer in Pathology at the Democritus University of Thrace (2009\u20132010). In 2012, he founded the medical company \u201cENARGIA,\u201d based in Xanthi. He was appointed Director of the National Health System (ESY) at the General Hospital of Xanthi in 2021 and served as Scientific Director of the Department of Pathology. Dr Yu has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on numerous UKRI, Innovate UK, EMIZ, industry, and EU FP6\/FP7\/H2020 projects, producing impactful AI solutions for aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare, rail inspection, and finance. He is the CEO and Co-founder of LucenAI Ltd, a University of Derby spin-out built on his research into enterprise knowledge memory and agentic AI. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Alba Iulia (Romania) on EC-funded collaborations, and as External Examiner for AI and Computer Science MSc programmes at the University of Law, London. He returned to Greece in May 2003 to join the Faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Democritus University, where he was elected full Professor in 2007. Vassilis was also Visiting Professor at the MIT Dept. of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was\/is editor in well-known journals including IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, the Journal of Computer Networks, Ad Hoc Networks, and others. He chaired several conferences and delivered over 50 keynotes and invited talks, including talks at MIT, NASA JPL, ESA\/ESOC, University of Cambridge, Consultative Committee for Space Standards and many other institutions.
