Didaskalou Stylianos<\/a>, Post-Doc Researcher DUTH, Associated Researcher ATHENA <\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Stylianos Didaskalou graduated from the Department of Physics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and later continued his studies in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Democritus University of Thrace. He holds a master\u2019s degree in Translational Research in Biomedicine, and his doctoral dissertation focused on cellular and molecular biology with an emphasis on cell division. During his graduate studies, he specialized in microscopy techniques, such as confocal microscopy and selected-plane illumination microscopy, while simultaneously developing numerous methods for the analysis of multidimensional microscopy images. His research interests include Data Analysis and Multidimensional Image Analysis, Applications of Machine Learning and Deep Learning, and Molecular Simulations. He has worked as a research associate on the BioImaging-GR and InTechThrace projects and has contributed to several scientific papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. He is currently a Project Manager and coordinator for five (5) tasks in the European Horizon ThrombUS+ program, which aims to create a new wearable system for the in-depth detection of thrombosis in the lower extremities through continuous autonomous monitoring using ultrasound and other diagnostic techniques, as well as image and signal analysis using machine learning techniques . He received his Diploma (B.Eng, M.Eng) in Rural and Surveying Engineering of the Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in 2011. In 2018, he received his PhD degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE) of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh) in the research domain of “Signal, Image and 3D Object Processing, Content-Based Retrieval, Computational geometry and topology, and Machine Learning”. Currently, he is a lecturer of the postgraduate course \u201cMachine Learning\u201d in the MSc in Language Technology, that is served in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and ATHENA RC, and he assists in the teaching process of the course \u201cPattern Recognition\u201d at EECE, DUTH. Kavakiotis Ioannis<\/strong><\/a>, Head of Biomedical Data Science and Bioinformatics Unit, DUTH<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n

He is head of \u201cBiomedical Data Science and Bioinformatics\u201d Unit at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Democritus University of Thrace. He holds a PhD degree (2016) in Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery from Biological and Biomedical Data. He also holds a BS degree in Informatics (2008) and three MSc degrees – the first in Information Systems (School of Informatics, AUTh, 2010), the second in Applied Genetics and Biotechnology (School of Biology, AUTh, 2015) and the third in Medical Informatics (School of Medicine, AUTh, 2020). Furthermore, he has been awarded four fellowships from Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society (\u0395\u0395\u03a4\u039d) and Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research interests are focused in Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence methods specialized for Biological and Biomedical data. Her research interests include medical imaging and telematics applications in health and education. Since 2002, she has taken on the autonomous and independent teaching of the course “Physics in Biological Sciences” and the course “Internet in Health”, while she also participates in the teaching of the course “Medical Physics” in the School of Medicine, DUTH as well as in a number of postgraduate programs . He is the Director of Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) at the Athena Research Center (ATHENA RC) since June 2019. He received his M.Eng. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, in 1992. In 1993 he obtained the M.Sc. with distinction in Communications and Signal Processing from Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, University of London, UK. In 1997 he received his Ph.D. degree in Mathematical modelling and Stochastic Control from Imperial College. His research interest involves digital signal processing, statistics analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence. He has supervised doctor thesis and postgraduate thesis as well as teaches in postgraduate programs in his research subjects. In 2017, received his PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering from the Hellenic Open University, School of Science and Technology. He currently teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the International Hellenic University (IHU) and the Hellenic Open University. He received his Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras in 2005. He then was awarded a full scholarship from the Students Awards Agency Scotland and in 2006 obtained his master\u2019s degree in computer science from the Informatics School of the University of Edinburgh. In 2016 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled \u201cTechnologies and Systems for Remote Monitoring and Diagnosis Support\u201d, supervised by Professor Pantelis Botsaris from the Production Engineering and Management (PME) department of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). From 2008 until today, he has been working as a scientific associate with the Athena Research Center, participating in the writing, technical management, and implementation of national and European research projects. His research interests include the Internet of Things, cloud analytics technologies, intelligent tracking systems, metadata management systems, and rapid prototyping with 3D printing technologies. Papadopoulos Vasileios<\/a>, Assistant Proffesor, School of Medicine, DUTH<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Vasileios Papadopoulos graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1995. He received his Ph.D. in 2022 from the same school. In 2004, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine. In 2005, he graduated from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Democritus University of Thrace. He served as a Lecturer in Pathology at the Democritus University of Thrace (2009\u20132010). In 2012, he founded the medical company \u201cENARGIA,\u201d based in Xanthi. He was appointed Director of the National Health System (ESY) at the General Hospital of Xanthi in 2021 and served as Scientific Director of the Department of Pathology. Since 2022, he has been working at the \u201cAKESIOS\u201d Medical Center in Xanthi, and as of today, he is an Assistant Professor of Anatomy in the Department of Medicine at the Democritus University of Thrace. He was a member of the Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP) of the European Medicines Agency and a member of the Examination Committee for the Specialty of Internal Medicine in Northern Greece. He is a member of the First Section of the Scientific Council of the National Organization for Medicines (EOF) and a member of the Translation and Editing Committee for the Greek edition of MedDRA. He has published 105 articles, 85 of which are indexed in PubMed, and has presented numerous papers at international and national conferences. Dr Hong Qing (Harry) Yu<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, Associate Professor, University of Derby<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Dr Hong Qing (Harry) Yu is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Data Science at the University of Derby, where he leads the MSc Computing portfolio, chairs the Postgraduate Teaching Committee, and directs the Digital Society Research Cluster. His research spans agentic AI systems, digital twins, large-scale data integration, retrieval-augmented generation, and knowledge-graph-driven reasoning. He has an established international research profile with 1495 citations, an h-index of 19, and an i10-index of 32, reflecting sustained contributions across AI, data science, and computational healthcare. Dr Yu has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on numerous UKRI, Innovate UK, EMIZ, industry, and EU FP6\/FP7\/H2020 projects, producing impactful AI solutions for aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare, rail inspection, and finance. He is the CEO and Co-founder of LucenAI Ltd, a University of Derby spin-out built on his research into enterprise knowledge memory and agentic AI. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Alba Iulia (Romania) on EC-funded collaborations, and as External Examiner for AI and Computer Science MSc programmes at the University of Law, London. She received a Medical Degree from the School of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace in 1992 and in 1996 she received a Doctoral Thesis from the School of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). In 1999, she received her specialty as a Pathologist. She has been a faculty member of the School of Medicine, DUTH since 2000 and Head of the Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy Laboratory in the same department. Her research interests focus on anatomy, clinical-surgical anatomy, anatomic pathology, electron microscopy and the history of medicine. Additionally, she is Director of the Master\u2019s Program in “Clinical-Surgical Anatomy” of the School of Medicine, DUTH. Vassilios Tsaousidis<\/a>, Professor of Computer Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, DUTH<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Vassilis Tsaoussidis, holds degrees in Applied Mathematics (Aristotle University, Greece) and Computer Science (Ph.D 1995 in Computer Networks Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany). Vassilis held a postdoctoral appointment at the Department of Computer Science, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ US and faculty appointments at the Computer Science Department of SUNY Stony Brook, NY, US and at the college of Computer Science of Northeastern University, Boston, MA, US. He returned to Greece in May 2003 to join the Faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Democritus University, where he was elected full Professor in 2007. Vassilis was also Visiting Professor at the MIT Dept. of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was\/is editor in well-known journals including IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, the Journal of Computer Networks, Ad Hoc Networks, and others. He chaired several conferences and delivered over 50 keynotes and invited talks, including talks at MIT, NASA JPL, ESA\/ESOC, University of Cambridge, Consultative Committee for Space Standards and many other institutions. Vassilis has graduated 17 Ph.D students. He was National Representative for FP7 Cooperation \u2013 Space and member of the Board of Directors for Hellenic Space Agency. Georgios Koukis is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) and a research associate at the ATHENA Research Center. His research interests focus on network and satellite communications for smart cities and the IoT, as well as the orchestration and automation of services in cloud and cloud\/edge environments. He has conducted experimental evaluations and published on container-based architectures, utilizing Docker and Kubernetes for the development and scaling of microservices.
